Lalela
Lalela is an arts organisation that works with children from different backgrounds and schools. Working with Lalela and two Artist Proof Studio interns, we selected and framed artworks made by the children and installed them within the Lalela space.
Students were taught how to ink, operate the press pressure, and register their paper for professional, clean prints. They developed prints expressing their own narrative in relation to human rights on handmade banana leaf paper made at our local paper mill.
Lalela’s students created an exhibition at Constitution Hill, a popular community space in Johannesburg. The exhibition was titled ‘We the children, our heARTs beat’.
Artworks from Lalela’s students were framed and installed at their schools and we ran a private printmaking workshop for the educators.
